Service Shield is run by experienced HVAC technicians who have spent years in attics, on rooftops and in mechanical rooms doing the work themselves, and still do.
Michael started in HVAC in Massachusetts. Work in the Northeast covers a lot of ground. In the same week he might be on a heat pump, a gas furnace, a boiler, a humidifier, a run of ductwork or a tankless water heater. That range taught him how mechanical systems fit together, not just how one piece of equipment works.
When he moved to South Florida, the work changed shape. He spent years with established HVAC companies, on standard split systems and larger homes, and on commercial equipment: water-source heat pumps tied to cooling towers, communicating and inverter systems, Daikin and VRF equipment, and controls running on advanced boards and BACnet networks. Troubleshooting complex equipment became a big part of his work, including the calls where the obvious part had already been replaced and the problem was still there.
Along the way Michael also studied computer science and worked with front-end technology: HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Python. HVAC is the trade he chose, but that background still shapes how Service Shield documents its work and runs its systems.
Why Service Shield
Over those years Michael watched more of the industry around him shift toward sales numbers. He wanted something different: an HVAC company where correctly diagnosing the equipment, doing good work, explaining it to the customer and developing technicians stayed at the center, and where selling equipment was never the goal by itself.
That idea is still the test for how Service Shield works:
Diagnose before recommending. A recommendation should come from readings, not from a guess about which part usually fails.
Explain it plainly. You should understand what failed and why before you approve anything. Photos help, and we take them.
Give options, then step back. An AC problem can turn into a decision worth thousands of dollars, sometimes a five-figure one, and it usually arrives without warning. Sometimes repairing the system is the sensible call. Sometimes replacing it is. We lay out the paths, the trade-offs and the costs, and the decision stays with you, without pressure to decide on the spot.
Stand behind the work. Clean installations, careful repairs and records of what was done, so the work holds up and the next visit starts from facts.
Shawn, our Install Manager
Michael's strength is service and diagnostics. Service Shield needed the other half of the trade too, and that's Shawn.
Shawn grew up in St. Lucia and worked in agriculture before HVAC. Air conditioning wasn't a big part of everyday life where he grew up. He came to it as a trade, learned it from the ground up and has about 20 years of HVAC experience in South Florida, much of it installing systems.
On a Service Shield installation, Shawn sets the standard: how the line set is run and insulated, how the drain is pitched and trapped, how the electrical is terminated and how the equipment sits on its pad or stand. Those details decide how long a new system lasts, and they're the ones a homeowner rarely sees. A company built by a diagnostician and an installer catches problems from both directions.
Manager at Service Shield Air Conditioning and still a working service technician. Michael started in HVAC in the Northeast and leads the diagnostic work.

How the team is being built
Service Shield is meant to be a place where people can take pride in the trade and keep getting better at it.
Jari is a good example. He came in with five to six years of residential installation experience, and he now handles both service calls and installations. He is working toward additional HVAC certifications and wants to grow into larger equipment, such as boilers, chillers and cooling towers, over time. That kind of steady growth is what the company is set up to support: technicians who learn the why behind the work, not just the steps.
The tools matter too. Service Shield uses modern systems for documentation, photos, scheduling and records, because good records make the next visit better. The hands-on craftsmanship stays the same.
What you can expect from a Service Shield technician
These are the standards the team works to on every call, whether it's a capacitor or a full replacement.
01
Respect the home
Treat your house with care, keep the work contained and ask before moving anything.
02
Diagnose carefully
Readings first. Electrical, refrigerant and airflow measurements before anyone recommends a part.
03
Explain what we found
In plain words, with photos when they help, before you approve anything.
04
Give real options
Repair and replacement paths where both make sense, with the honest pros and cons of each. You decide.
05
Careful workmanship
Treat the equipment as if it were our own. Connections, drains and line sets done right, even where nobody will see them.
06
Clean up and document
Leave the work area clean and record what was found and what was done.
07
Show up on time
We aim to arrive when we said we would.

Company facts
From the state license record and company information confirmed by Service Shield.
Service Shield isn't built to be sold. The plan is to grow into a South Florida HVAC company known for competence and trust: one that supports the families who work here, serves the community it works in, develops technicians and uses modern technology without losing the craft of the trade.
That takes years, and it happens one call at a time. If we work on your system, we'd like to be the company you call for the next twenty years of it.

He fixed the problem quickly and made sure everything was working before leaving. It’s hard to find honest technicians these days, so I really appreciated his help.
