About

Michael started his HVAC career in Massachusetts, where the work covered far more than air conditioning. In a typical Northeast season he might go from a heat pump to a gas furnace, a boiler, a humidifier or a tankless water heater in the same week, and that range taught him how mechanical systems fit together, not just how one box works.

After moving to South Florida he worked for established HVAC companies on everything from standard residential split systems to larger homes and commercial buildings: water-source heat pumps tied to cooling towers, communicating and inverter systems, Daikin and VRF equipment, and controls running on advanced boards and BACnet networks. Troubleshooting complex equipment became a big part of his work, including the calls where the obvious part has already been replaced and the problem is still there.

During those years he watched more of the industry around him shift toward sales numbers. Michael wanted to build a company where diagnosing the equipment correctly, doing good work, explaining it to the customer and developing technicians stayed at the center. That company is Service Shield.

Michael studied computer science and worked with front-end technology before HVAC became his full-time focus. It shows in how Service Shield runs: careful documentation, photos of what was found, clear written options and systems that keep track of each home's equipment. He is still in the field as an active service technician, not a manager who runs the company from an office.
